About Goura Korinthias

Our hotel is located in the village of Goura of the municipal of Feneos. Goura is the capital of the municipality and borders with the state of Achaia and Arcadia. It is situated at the foot of Mount Kyllini at an altitude of 950m. overlooking the magnificent plateau of Feneos. Gura has about 500 inhabitants engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry.

The possible origin of the name of the village "Goura" is the many waters that gush from the rocks. The area of Feneos is a region inhabited by the ancient times. The area mentioned in Homer's Iliad, on tours of Pausanias (176 AD) and in many different historical records and in Greek mythology.

The plateau Feneos was a large lake. Ancient Feneos was built on the hill but the waters of the lake flooded the city and destroyed it completely.

In mythology, Hercules opened holes in to mount “Saitas” and the lake was drained since then, reaching underneath the area of Kefalari in Argos, or the source of the river Ladonas. The plateau Feneos crosses the river "OLVIOS." The word "OLVIOS" is archaic and it means blessed, happy.
